Tiny Epic Zombies
Another game I bought at Games Expo 2023, another game I’ve just ignored.
This Board Game Challenge thing is really encouraging me to look at what I already have in the house before getting anything new and getting value out of these games I already have.
I’m also looking at more of the small box games, the ones I can take in my bag to work or out to a coffee shop to play if I’m out.
Tiny Epic Zombies is a game that features 5 play modes, and will have you fighting Zombies and trying to escape the Echo Ridge Mall. Take on the roll of a survivor, but watch out as you lose survivors you increase the strength of the Zombies by turning into one yourself!!
Tiny Epic Zombies offers 5 different modes of play. You will be able take on the game in your groups style or try them all out yourself.
In Tiny Epic Zombies, survivors are always on the run, collecting weapons, killing Zombies and working toward completing objectives. Completing 3 objectives can win you the game but if you’re too focused on the objectives, the Zombies will overrun the mall and that will be the end of you.
In the box you’ll find
- 14 Player Cards
- 9 Mall Cards
- 32 Search Cards
- 9 Objective Cards
- 4 ITEMeeples
- 12 Items
- 4 Wound Tokens
- 4 Ammo Tokens
- 18 Zombies
- 4 Survivor Tokens
- 1 Barricade Token
- 2 Vehicles (Motorcycle / Police Car)
- 1 Melee Die
- 12 Objective Markers
- 3 Horde Markers
- 4 Room Tokens
- 29 Objective Tokens
After reading the rules a couple of times and watching a couple of videos this game seems to have a lot of moving parts to remember but I should be fine if I take my time as normal and just concentrate.
The thing that did take the most time was setting the game up for play, just remembering where everything went and what order to do it was a bit brain scratching but I think it’s going to be one of those games that once you’ve played it a couple of times this becomes easier.
I was up against the Teacher Zombie and that shuffling around of searched cards was a bit of a pain, but with a little bit of planning and luck you could set up a windfall.
The three objectives were:
- Call the C.D.C. (obviously made a while back…)
- Save the Stranded
- Escape the Mall
It took a bit of planning but I was able to get quite a few tasks done in the same shops a lot of the time and only had one surprise zombie show up from the Save the Stranded option.
I had the Mallcop carry the radio as with his ability he could always do with the extra bullets that were picked up from Frequency and this seemed to work really well, especially when he picked up the Assault Rifle.
I did forget to use the Doctor’s ability to heal when I repaired the barricade and that would probably saved his life when he took two wounds trying to clear out the last zombie in the Orange 1 room that was the real exit to Escape the Mall
But this was tight, I got down to three search cards left when we eventually got to Escape the Mall.
Nice tight little solo game, took a bit of time to set up the first time but as I said I believe this will speed up with familiarity, I do have to remember to use all the character’s abilities as it’s a really tight game to win with so few turns to do it in, especially when you get Overrun a few times.
Will look out for other Tiny epic games now to add to the collection.
